A clash occurred between Indians and Bangladeshis at Kiranganj border in Chapainawabganj. The incident took place around 11 am on Saturday. Additional BGB and BSF have been deployed on both sides of the border in this incident.
Locals said that when the Indians went to cut trees near the barbed wire fence of the border, they had an argument with the Bangladeshis. At one point, a clash broke out between the two sides. Later, the BSF opened fire on the Bangladeshis and tried to pick up the Bangladeshis. Locals also said that the BSF was continuously firing tear gas shells.
At least three Bangladeshis were reported to have been injured in the attack by Indian nationals at that time. Later, the BGB and Bangladeshis tried to confront them together to resist them.
Local Binodpur Union Parishad (UP) member Md. Badsha said, “BSF members illegally entered Bangladesh and cut the branches of mango trees in our area. Later, they left the branches after confronting the BGB and locals. Tension prevails in the border area. Three Bangladeshis were injured in this.
Mesbahul Haque, a youth from Kaliganj Namotola area of Binodpur union, was injured by the Indians’ lance. He said that a total of three people were injured including him. Among the other two, Md. Roni of Bishwanathpur village was injured by the stones thrown by the Indians and Md. Faruk was injured by the lance.
Local people said that Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of the 59th battalion of BGB, is stationed at the border.
