Two senior judges of the Supreme Court of Iran were killed in a gun attack outside the tribunal building in the capital Tehran. According to a statement by the country’s judiciary media center, an armed man was involved in the murder.

The gunman also committed suicide after opening fire outside the courthouse early Saturday (January 18).

According to information provided by the judiciary and state media, the two judges killed were Hojat al-Islam Razini and Hojat al-Islam Wal-Muslimeen Moqiseh. They served in different branches of the court.

The statement added, “The two slain judges were actively involved in combating crimes against national security, espionage and terrorism. The slain judges were brave and experienced.”

However, there was no immediate information about the identity of the attacker and his motive.
