A murderer named Abu Yusuf (27) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a woman in Nabiganj, Habiganj. Along with a fine of 50 thousand taka, the learned Additional District and Sessions Judge of the 1st Court, Judge Syed Md. Kaiser Mosharraf Yusuf, sentenced him to 3 years imprisonment with 6 months in default.

The sentence was pronounced on Monday afternoon in the presence of the accused. Additional PP Md. Afzal Ali conducted the case for the state. Mamun Ahmed appeared for the accused.

According to the details of the case, Abu Yusuf, son of the deceased Mortuz Ali of Shahbazpur village of the upazila, asked his wife Taslima Begum to give him tea at 7 am on January 28, 2015. This led to an argument between them. At one stage, he hit Taslima with a stick and made her bleed. When Alekchan Bibi and Raja Mia came forward to save him, Yusuf also hacked them to death. Local people came forward and arrested Yusuf and rescued the injured and took them to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, but Alekchan Bibi died in the emergency department.

Meanwhile, people handed Yusuf over to Nabiganj Police Station. The other two injured recovered after a long struggle with death. In this incident, Wahid Mia’s wife and Yusuf’s sister-in-law Nehar Begum filed a case with Nabiganj Police Station on January 29, 2015. After the police investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court on May 21 of that year. After examining the evidence, the judge gave this verdict yesterday and sent the accused to jail after the verdict.
