Hundreds of garment factory workers fall ill after eating tiffin

More than a hundred workers of a garment factory called Baraka Fashion Limited in the Bora Deora Singhbari area of ​​Tongi have fallen ill after eating tiffin at night. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Thursday.

According to police and local sources, more than a thousand workers work at Baraka Fashion. Like every day, tiffin was given at around 8 pm while work was going on in the factory last night. After that, several of the working workers fell ill while eating tiffin. The number of illnesses gradually increased. Later, the sick workers were taken to various clinics including Tongi Shahid Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital and Gutia International Medical College Hospital.

Sick workers Halima Khatun, Sabuja Begum, Nurjahan and Rubina said that they were given Dennis cake, bananas and eggs as tiffin at night.

After eating these, the workers slowly fell ill and fell on the ground. Along with that, I started having stomach burning, stomach pain and nausea.

Swing section worker Imran said, my house is next to the factory. After giving me tiffin, I went home. When I got home, I gave my daughters Irani and Shalika Mim tiffin. They fell ill after eating tiffin, so I brought them to the hospital.

Inspector Md. Ismail Hossain of Gazipur Industrial Police-2 said, workers fell ill after eating tiffin and were taken to the hospital. More than a hundred workers fell ill after eating tiffin.

Dr. Shahria Luna, on-duty physician at the emergency department of Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, told the media that usually when someone falls ill after eating expired food, they experience vomiting, fever and stomach pain. But the samples I saw of patients who came to the hospital suggest that this happens after eating food mixed with sedatives or drugs.

Tongi West Police Station OC Iskandar Habibur Rahman confirmed the truth of the incident and said that the workers probably fell ill due to food poisoning.

Attempts to contact factory owner Golam Rabbani Chowdhury on this matter were unsuccessful.
