A BNP mass rally was held in Hatia, Noakhali to implement the 31-point reform of the state. The rally was held on Friday afternoon at the initiative of Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations by Upazila Engineer Mohammad Fazlul Azim at Adarsh Mohila College ground.

A BNP leader named Abul Basar Phul Mia raised the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ in his speech at the rally, which is being discussed and criticized. However, Phul Mia claims that he did not raise the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. Someone standing next to him raised the slogan. However, many local BNP leaders and activists claim that Abul Basar took advantage of the Awami League.

Former MP and central BNP member Engineer Mohammad Fazlul Azim was present as the chief guest at the rally, chaired by District BNP member Khondaker Md. Abul Kalam and moderated by Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Md. Iqbal Uddin Rashed. Before the chief guest’s speech at the rally, the leaders of the Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations spoke.

Hatia Municipality Ward 9 President Abul Basar ended his speech by saying Joy Bangla. This has sparked a storm of discussion among local BNP leaders and activists. There is criticism through social media.

In this regard, Abul Basar’s Phul Mia said, “I did not raise any slogan saying Joy Bangla. The Joy Bangla slogan is our enemy, it is the enemy of our clan. Why would I say Joy Bangla? I said Tarek Zia Zindabad.” The BNP leader claimed that someone next to him said Joy Bangla towards the end of his speech.

Hatia Municipality Jubo Dal convener Nizam Uddin said, “Abul Basar’s brother is a senior leader of ours. He is saying Joy Bangla by mistake. People are always wrong. He did not do this intentionally.’

Several leaders of the upazila BNP, who did not want to be named, said that the Awami League has been oppressing BNP leaders and activists for the last 17 years with the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’. After Sheikh Hasina fled, some people are trying to change their party under the umbrella of some of her faults. Abul Basar Phul Mia took various privileges and benefits when the Awami League was in power. His statement at the BNP rally cannot be accepted.

In this regard, the general secretary of the district BNP, Advocate Abdur Rahman, said, ‘No BNP leader and activist will be able to raise banned slogans. If anyone is involved in any activities outside the organization, organizational action will be taken against him.’ He also said that organizational action will be taken against Abul Basar if the truth is found.
