No plan to separate Titumir College: Education Advisor

Dhaka //

There is no plan to make Titumir College a separate university, said Dr. Wahid Uddin Mahmud, the interim government’s education advisor.

After the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Sunday (February 2), he said, “There will be no separate university based solely on the demands of Titumir College students.”

Dr. Mahmud said that discussions are underway to merge the seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University and develop them into an independent university. A committee led by the UGC chairman is working on this issue.

Regarding the movement of Titumir College students, he said, “Students of a college are protesting with a time limit, this is not right.”

He also said, “We, the interim government, have not come to accept demands. We are working on some reforms. It is not logical to create public suffering there.”

Advising students to focus on classes and exams, he said, “It is good to protest, but studying is also important. If students do not take the exams, their future will be affected.”

Following this statement by the education advisor, discussions are underway in the education community about how the Titumir College students’ protest is progressing.
