The mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman installed in front of the Sylhet District Commissioner’s office was bulldozed by anti-discrimination students on Wednesday night.

Anti-discrimination students held a protest rally in the Bandar Bazar area around 10 pm on Wednesday. Later, they marched in front of the District Commissioner’s office with a bulldozer along with a protest march.

At first, they were prevented from entering as the main gate was closed. Later, they unlocked it and entered. The students bulldozed the mural of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of the District Commissioner’s office.

During this time, the students could be heard shouting slogans like ‘Mujibabad’s hideout, demolish it, demolish it’, Abu Sayeed is impressed, the war is not over’.

Earlier, they held a rally under the banner of Tawhidi Janata demanding the removal of the mural.

After a series of demands for the mural’s removal over the past few days, the mural was vandalized on the night of January 30. The mural was finally torn down on Wednesday night by anti-discrimination students.
