Begum Rokeya University (Berobi) has decided to rename the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, a residential hall for girls, to ‘Shaheed Felani Hall’. In addition, another residential hall for students has been renamed ‘Bijoy 24 Hall’. Its previous name was Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall.

After the 110th meeting of the Syndicate held at the Administrative Building on Saturday (February 08), the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, gave this information in a press briefing in the evening.

At the same time, the Vice-Chancellor said that to commemorate the contribution of Shaheed Abu Sayeed in the anti-discrimination movement, it has been decided to celebrate Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day with due dignity on July 16 every year at the initiative of Begum Rokeya University. Classes and examinations will be closed at the university on this day, but administrative activities will continue. In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor called for observing this day at the national level in all educational institutions. The Vice-Chancellor also said that a decision has been taken to waive all types of university fees for the injured students of Berobi during the July movement.

He also said that every year in February, the month of language, the university administration has decided to organize a 7-day book fair in the name of Shaheed Abu Sayeed. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali, was in the chair and other members were present at the syndicate meeting.
