Moulvibazar, Staff Reporter //

Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said, ‘The Chief Advisor has made an announcement, elections can be held by December. Reforms are urgent in the country, if the reforms are not completed and the political parties agree, the elections will be held by June 2026 at the latest, it will not go beyond that.’

She said all this as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with the beneficiaries of Baikka Beel Fisheries Sanctuary in Srimangal, Moulvibazar on Sunday (February 9) afternoon.

Regarding the law and order situation in the country, she said, ‘One thing we have to remember is that after a huge movement by the youth, a change has come to the country. But not everything has changed. Many of those who were in power before are now trying to become active. Because of this, various situations are being created in the country. The events that are happening are temporary, they cannot be long-lasting. Now the law enforcement agencies are playing a very active role. We want to create a situation where we can reform the country and go through the elections after fixing the damage done to the country. Those who are creating a chaotic situation are doing political damage. There are some provocative things here, so the incidents are also happening.

Expressing gratitude to the youth, the advisor said, ‘The youth of the country have brought a huge success. They gave their lives to remove the discrimination in the country from a small demand they had, they were injured. Thousands of young people are still lying in the hospital. It is not enough to pay tribute to them. We have to remember their words all the time. Especially the current interim government views this matter with utmost importance. The Youth Ministry can make various plans with these young people. It can also be done from the Social Welfare Ministry. We can also do it from the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry.

In response to a question from journalists, the Fisheries Advisor said, ‘Those who enjoy hunting haor birds should refrain from this work. It is a cruel and inhumane act. It is not right to do this work. This is a loss for the country, harmful to life and nature. Therefore, there is no alternative to public awareness in addition to implementing the existing laws of the country.’

Moulvibazar Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mosa. Shahina Akhter was present in the chair, and the Director General of the Fisheries Department Dr. Abdur Rouf, Additional Director General Zia Haider Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Director Md. Anwar Kabir, District Fisheries Officer Dr. Md. Arif Hossain, Srimangal Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Islam Uddin and local beneficiaries were present.

Earlier, the Fisheries Advisor visited different parts of Baikka Beel and planted fruit trees there.

Expressed his opinion.
