The main goal of ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ is to arrest those trying to destabilize the country and bring them under the law, said Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Nasimul Ghani.
At a press briefing at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, he said that the police force is at the core of this operation, which is being supported by the army.
He said that after the fall of the dictatorial government through the student-people’s revolution six months ago, the army was deployed to control the law and order situation across the country. At that time, the police force suffered major losses, as a result of which the morale of the force was challenged.
The Home Secretary said, “We are taking legal steps to take strict action against those trying to destabilize the country. ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ is part of that. We are working by keeping human rights and environmental aspects in mind while implementing the law.”
He further said that a workshop on the importance of human rights and environment will be organized with law enforcement agencies on February 11.
Regarding the restructuring of the police force, he said, “In countries where revolutions have taken place, those countries have not kept the defeated forces. But we could not be so inhumane. He said, we wanted to reform the force. Some of the police have done wrong out of fear and pressure. Some who were die-hard have fled. Action is being taken against them. He further said, the morale of a force has been broken. An attempt is being made to bring real reforms in the police. We want the police to stand up straight. For this, they are being actively counseled.”
He said that the government is determined to restore peace and order in the country through ‘Operation Devil Hunt’.
