British High Commissioner in Dhaka will meet BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
He said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with the Acting British High Commissioner in Dhaka at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Thursday (February 13).
Mirza Fakhrul said, BNP does not want local government elections before the national elections. Besides, BNP is not in favor of the proportional representation system.
He said, we do not want local government elections before the national elections. If it happens, it will lead the country to a more fragile state from a political perspective. The sooner the elections are held, the sooner the situation in the country will ease.
Welcoming the UN’s response to the July uprising, Mirza Fakhrul said, Sheikh Hasina is responsible for all the genocides of the past 17 years. Besides, the people will decide whether any political party will be allowed to be elected or banned in the country.
