The Dhaka Bar Association has appealed to the Chief Justice to take legal action against Judge Nur Alam of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal, whose trial work has been suspended due to the lawyers’ protest.

Syed Nazrul Islam, general secretary of the ad hoc committee of the Dhaka Bar Association, filed the appeal on Wednesday, seeking legal action against the judge, including immediate withdrawal of his disrespectful behavior, unwanted and obscene remarks and untrue propaganda towards lawyers and litigants.

The matter of the appeal was learned on Thursday.

The appeal states that recently joined Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Nur Alam constantly behaves in a contemptuous, disrespectful manner, makes unwanted remarks while hearing the cases of junior lawyers and uses abusive, obscene remarks and acts unfairly towards litigants in public court.

The application further states that on the basis of verbal complaints against him by the former president and general secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association, senior and ordinary lawyers, the Bar Association and the bench requested a courtesy meeting with the president and general secretary of the organization on February 9 to maintain a fair environment in the courtroom. Judge Noor Alam did not take any steps for the meeting or discussion, and the next day on February 10, the court session began with 20/25 police members led by ADC Nasir Ahmed Howlader and AC Prosecution Hasan Rashed Parag.

It is particularly noteworthy that on February 9 and 10, no officer or executive member of the Dhaka Bar Association, including the president and general secretary, heard any case or bail application in that court. Upon hearing the news of Judge Noor Alam’s such behavior, some officials of the Dhaka Bar Association appeared in the tribunal and asked the judge to discuss with the president and general secretary of the association. The judge first said, “Do I work for the Dhaka Bar Association? Why do I have to talk to the committee of the Dhaka Bar Association?” I will not talk to the President and General Secretary of the Dhaka Bar Association.

He ordered the police, saying, ‘This police, take them out.’

He agitated the lawyers present by using various provocative, inaudible language and offensive gestures. He pulled up his coat sleeves and became aggressive and asked them to shoot, which created a commotion in the court.

He is trying to create conflict between the members of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission and lawyers by illegally discrediting the image of lawyers by discrediting the image of the judiciary of Bangladesh among the general litigants and the people of Bangladesh and the whole world and destabilizing the current government. Which is not desirable for the judiciary in any way.

In the letter, he requested that Judge Noor Alam’s disrespectful, unwanted and obscene statements and untrue propaganda be withdrawn immediately and legal action be taken against him.

According to court sources, Judge Noor Alam has been on leave since Wednesday.
