Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain met with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The meeting held in Muscat, the capital of Oman, on Sunday discussed the challenges of the existing bilateral crisis between Bangladesh and India.
Both of them emphasized on working together to address these challenges. This was stated in a press release of the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday night.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat. Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain led the Bangladesh delegation to the conference jointly organized by the India Foundation and Oman.
The press release issued after the bilateral meeting with Jaishankar also said that various issues of mutual concern and interest were discussed in the meeting. During this time, they recalled the bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September.
They mentioned that many meetings have been held between the two countries since the meeting held at the UN. Among these, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri’s visit to Bangladesh on December 9, Bangladesh’s Energy Advisor’s participation in the Energy Week program in Delhi on February 10-11.
Both sides mentioned that a meeting will be held in Delhi on February 18-19 at the level of the Director Generals of the Border Guards of the two countries.
In the meeting, the Bangladeshi Foreign Advisor emphasized the need to start negotiations on the renewal of the Ganga Treaty. He advocated holding a meeting of the SAARC Standing Committee and sought India’s support in this regard.
