Terrorists have released 25 workers kidnapped by hill terrorists from Murungjhiri area of Phansiakhali Union in Lama Upazila of Bandarban.
On Tuesday (February 18) morning, Lama Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Moin Uddin confirmed that the rubber workers were released from the hands of the terrorists.
It is learned that during a joint operation by the army and police, 25 rubber workers who were held hostage by a hill armed terrorist group were released. Several of the released workers are seriously ill and are being treated at the Lama Upazila Health Complex. However, although the terrorists demanded ransom from their families, it could not be confirmed whether any money was paid by their families as ransom.
The rubber workers released from the hands of the terrorists are Md. Faruk, Md. Ayub Ali, Md. Siddique, Md. Abdul Khalek, Abdul Majed. Monirul Islam, Mobarak, Md. Harun, Ramiz Uddin, Syed Nur, Md. Kaiser, Md. Monir Hossain, Md. Imran, residents of Alikhong area of the upazila. Manjur, Afsar Ali, Khairul Amin, Abu Bakkar, Md. Abdur Razzak and Mubin of Idgar Union of Cox’s Bazar district. In addition, 6 other workers have been released.
Confirming the matter, Lama Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Moin Uddin said that 25 more workers abducted by terrorists from Murungjhiri of Phansiakhali Union have been released. The terrorists have released several of them, he said, as they are seriously ill and are being treated.
It is worth noting that on January 14 and February 1, armed terrorists abducted 14 workers in two phases from Sarai UP of the same upazila. Later, they were rescued unharmed in a joint operation by the forces. Later, on Sunday afternoon, a group of armed terrorists took 26 rubber workers hostage at gunpoint. One of them escaped from the terrorists on Monday. Later, the terrorists also released the remaining 25 workers.
