BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has commented that people are smelling something else rather than reforms in an attempt to delay the national elections.
He said this at a rally organized by Jessore District BNP on Tuesday afternoon.
Regarding the advisors’ desire to stay in power, he said, ‘If you want to do politics, leave your post and run for office, we will accept it. If you form a new party, you cannot do it while in power.’
Strongly criticizing the talk of holding local government elections before the national elections, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘We are not against reforms, wherever minimum reforms are needed, please hold elections quickly. However, the people of the country will not accept the local government elections before the national elections.
In his speech as the chief guest, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticized the increase in the prices of daily necessities and the deterioration of the law and order situation, saying that fascists’ friends are sitting everywhere. That is why even if the fascists flee, the prices of goods are not decreasing, people are not getting security, and the police are not able to work.
“Dr. Yunus is the pride of the country, people all over the world respect him, he has won the Nobel Prize, we also respect him,” Mirza Fakhrul said, “We were assured that he would arrange an election soon after he took office. We are still optimistic. The sooner the elections are held, the sooner peace will be established, and the prices of daily necessities will come down.”
Regarding the local government elections before the national elections, he said that if this is done, Awami League friends will rise up in the areas, creating chaos.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We don’t want to create division and quarrel. Don’t use any tactics. The people of this country want national elections first, and then local government elections.”
