US President Donald Trump has issued a stern threat to 4 countries including India. The 5 BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – are under this threat.

Trump recently announced that if the BRICS countries try to create an alternative currency to the US dollar, a 150% tariff will be imposed on their products.

While speaking at the Republican Governors Association in Washington, he said, ‘The BRICS countries were trying to destroy our dollar… They wanted to create a new currency.’

Trump also mentioned that soon after taking office, he announced, ‘If any BRICS country mentions the destruction of the dollar, a 150% tariff will be imposed on their products. We do not want your products.’

Trump said that there has been no response from the BRICS countries since this threat. Earlier, Trump had said that if the BRICS countries introduce their own currencies or abandon the use of the dollar, he would impose a 100% tariff on their imports.

Now he has threatened to increase the tariff even further. According to him, if any country tries to use another currency instead of the dollar in international trade, they will have to sever relations with the United States.

BRICS is an alliance consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The pair has been discussing the introduction of alternative currencies to challenge the dominance of the US dollar in the global economy.
