Two friends were killed in a truck and motorcycle collision on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway. The accident occurred at around 2 pm on Sunday at a place called Katagang in Jaintapur upazila. Another person was injured during the incident.
The deceased are Delwar Hossain (22), son of Ali Ahmed of Dibirhaor village in Jaintapur upazila, and Md. Tofail (24), son of Hasan Ali of Agfoud Panchseuti village.
Sabbir Ahmed (30), son of Jalal Ahmed of Birakhai area of the upazila, has been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in an injured condition.
Locals said that three people, including two friends, were going to Sadar from Darbast Bazar in Jaintapur upazila on a motorcycle. The motorcycle collided head-on with a freight truck at a place called Katagang and the motorcycle was twisted. Two friends died on the spot. It was raining at the time. Locals believe that the truck lost control and collided with the motorcycle due to the rain. After the incident, the driver quickly left the scene with the truck. Later, a team of Highway Police Station rescued the victims with the help of locals.
Tamabil Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Habibur Rahman told The Daily Morning Sun that the two riders died on the spot. The matter will be investigated whether the truck ran over them and fled or they fell to their deaths after the collision. Preparations are underway for a case against an unknown accused.
