In a few hours, the new political party of students is going to be officially launched. Although the name of the party was announced yesterday evening as the National Citizen Party (NCP).

The much-awaited name and committee of the new party will be announced through a rally at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Friday afternoon. The Advisory Council of the interim government, political parties supporting the mass uprising, and prominent people from various classes and professions have been invited for this occasion.

A few hours before this historic moment of the party announcement, Legal Advisor and Professor of Law Department of Dhaka University Dr. Asif Nazrul posted a post on the social media Facebook. He also attached a picture of the invitation letter with the post. He also shared a memoir about the new party’s member secretary Akhtar Hossain. Asif Nazrul also raised the issue of the party’s convener Nahid Islam.

‘‘I was very upset after the fake elections of 2024. At that time, Akhtar came to the law department one day. He said that I had convinced him to bring him to Dhaka from home to complete his masters. But even then, there was no sign of him leaving the campus.

He stopped my car and greeted me. Then he stood there for a while, shaking his head. I got annoyed. I got even more annoyed when he said, leave the Nur-Rashed party and form a new organization!

I said: A new party again! How many more times do you want to be beaten!

He lowered his head and smiled softly. I could not find any meaning in this strange smile. Without saying much, I went home. A few days later, when I saw his bloody picture after being beaten by the Chhatra League, my heart was torn with sadness and despair. Doesn’t he understand that nothing will happen and he does all this!

I couldn’t understand either. Within a few months of forming the new organization, they made the impossible possible. They brought down the powerful and ruthless fascist Sheikh Hasina.

Nahid of Akhtar’s organization became the main leader of this mass uprising. The leader of me and millions of people like me in the turbulent July!

Then I worked with Nahid in the new government. How many times did he surprise me with his competence, restraint, personality and unimaginable maturity!

Nahid lives next door to me. On the day he resigned from the government, I stared at his green lawn for a long time late at night. Maya is a strange thing!

Today, Nahid and Akhtar are starting a new journey. The journey of their new party has begun to fulfill the expectations of the students and youth of the July mass uprising.
