The National Citizens Party (NCP) has approved a 217-member convening committee. The matter was announced in a message sent by National Citizens Party Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain in the early hours of Sunday (March 2).

The message said that in 2024, the citizens of Bangladesh were freed from a fascist regime through an unprecedented bloody uprising by the students and the public. However, one point of the uprising, namely the abolition of the fascist system and a new political settlement announced at the Shaheed Minar, has not yet been implemented. As a political community, the people of this township have presented themselves at various times in history. As part of the nearly 200-year anti-colonial struggle, we achieved an independent state in 1947 through the Pakistan Movement. But the Pakistani state has failed to embrace and implement the aspirations of the people of this township for social, political, and economic liberation.

It is also said that the people of this township, out of a desire for freedom, achieved independence from the Pakistani ruling class in 1971 through a bloody war of liberation. But after independence, the state structure of Bangladesh, built through the Mujibist constitution enacted in 1972, paved the way for the establishment of undemocratic, authoritarian and fascist rule. As a result, the citizens of this country have been victims of dictatorship, autocracy and finally fascism in various periods of history. In such a context, to eliminate all elements and structures of fascism from the state structure of Bangladesh and to implement a new political settlement to realize the desire of the people of this township for freedom, under the leadership of the anti-discrimination student movement and at the initiative of the National Citizens Committee, we, the students and people of Bangladesh, have announced the debut of a new political party named ‘National Citizens Party’ on February 28, 2025 at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital Dhaka.

Mim Akhter, sister of one of the brave fighters of the July Uprising, Shahid Ismail, announced the names of Nahid Islam as the convener of the National Citizen Party and Akhter Hossain as the member secretary. The convening committee (partial) will conduct the formulation of the constitution and manifesto of this political party, implementation of the program and organizational expansion activities within the next 1 year.
