US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized India on the tariff issue. Recently, he said that India has promised to reduce tariffs on US products. Although the Modi government has said that discussions are underway.

Meanwhile, Washington has once again targeted Delhi over tariffs. In a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt raised the issue of India’s high tariffs.

She said that India charges 150 percent duty on American liquor. She also commented that it is not helpful.

According to a report by Indian news agency ANI, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, while commenting on the tariffs imposed by various countries on the United States, mentioned the tariffs imposed by India on American alcohol and agricultural products.

At a press conference on Tuesday local time, she said, US President Donald Trump believes in mutual cooperation and wants fair and balanced trade relations.

She said, look at India… The country has imposed a 150 percent tariff on American alcohol. Do you think this helps the export of Kentucky bourbon (American whiskey) to India? I don’t think so. Besides, India imposes a 100 percent tariff on our agricultural products.

Caroline also criticized India for imposing tariffs on American alcohol and agricultural products. She also said, President Trump believes in mutual cooperation. We have a president who will actually look after the interests of American businesses and workers….

Earlier, in addition to constantly making negative comments about Indian tariffs, Donald Trump has been the target of criticism at various times. The US Republican president, while speaking in Parliament, said that India imposes tariffs of more than 100 percent on us.

On Tuesday, a parliamentary panel of the Indian central government said that no commitment has been made to the US to reduce tariffs yet.

However, due to pressure from the US, India recently reduced the tariff on US bourbon whiskey. Earlier, the country was imposing a 150 percent tariff on US bourbon whiskey. This has now been reduced by 50 percent to 100 percent. As a result, the price of the popular US brand Jim Beam may come down in India.
