Two children died after drowning in a pond in Baralekha of Moulvibazar district.

The incident took place on Saturday (March 15) afternoon in BOC Kesharigul village of Dakshinbhag Uttar Union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Zahid Ahmed (6), son of Junaid Ahmed of BOC Kesharigul village, and his nephew Shamim Ahmed (8). Shamim used to study in different houses.

It is learnt that Zahid and Shamim were playing near their house on Saturday morning. At one stage, they fell into the pond water near the house and drowned. Later, their relatives started searching for a long time after not seeing them. At one stage, their bodies were recovered from the pond.

Local UP member Abdur Rob said, it has been raining for two days. Water has accumulated in the pond. Zahid and Shamim drowned in a pond while playing near their house in the morning, unnoticed by the family. The matter has been reported to the police.

Barolekha Police Inspector (Investigation) Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman confirmed the accident on Saturday evening and said that the incident is tragic. A case of accidental death has been registered at the police station in this incident.
