BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the interim government’s talk about the elections has created confusion among people. People are thinking whether a joke is being made about the upcoming elections. Such fears are being created among people whether there is another blueprint to deprive voters who have not been able to vote for 16 years.
He said these things at an iftar mahfil at Hotel Purbani in the capital on Saturday. This iftar mahfil was organized in honor of journalists by the Nationalist Youth Party, the Volunteer Party and the Chhatra Dal.
Addressing the interim government, Rizvi said, “The work is not finished yet? Why is there still delay? A few days ago, he confirmed that the elections will be held in December.” Many important people in the government have said. Today, I read in the newspaper that it can happen in June too, it says that if you want short-term reforms, then in December and if you want long-term reforms, then in June, why is the government creating a haze by saying these words? This is the question of the people today.
This BNP leader asked, what is the short-term reform again? What is long-term? Reform is an ongoing process. The reform that you are doing today may be reformed again after 50 years. It may be canceled again after 20 years, new reforms may come. So why are these words coming? If there are short-term reforms, elections will be held in December, if there are long-term reforms, elections will be held in June – these words are also creating a haze.
Rizvi said, there was a thing called witch hunt in Europe. It was done by law and some girls were burned to death for being witches. This extremely inhumane practice was abolished in 1735. So today’s reform is not a permanent one. It may fail again after 40 years, and a new reform may be needed. Reforms are ongoing, ongoing, and short-term, long-term, and this is not your final word. So, if the government creates any confusion in the public mind by saying all these things, then people will have a great distrust of the government. Because the people do not expect this from those who have public support for the interim government. At this time, he recalled the role of journalists during the fascist period of the Awami League.
The program, chaired by Jubo Dal Central President Monayem Munna and conducted by Chhatra Dal Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, also spoke at the program – BNP National Standing Committee Member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bakul, Jubo Dal Central General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan, 1st Joint General Secretary Billal Hossain Tarek, Organizing Secretary Kamruzzaman Jewel, Office Secretary Nurul Islam Sohel were present.
