Bishwanath (Sylhet) Correspondent //

SI Md. Alim Uddin of Bishwanath Police Station in Sylhet has been withdrawn on charges of accepting lakhs of taka in several installments to avoid arresting the accused in the case.

After the video of taking bribe went viral on social media Facebook, he was withdrawn from Bishwanath Police Station to Sylhet Police Lines on Tuesday night.

It is learned that accused SI Alim Uddin did not act as promised even after taking bribe. For this reason, the victim wants the bribe money back. But SI Alim repeatedly denied the matter. Earlier, the victim named Faisal secretly recorded two videos of the bribe transaction. That video went viral on social media Facebook since Tuesday afternoon.

In the video, SI Alim is seen sitting in the police station’s meeting room, smilingly putting the bribe installments in his pocket. In the video, he says that the entire 20 thousand will be needed for the charge sheet. In another video, he is also negotiating for the full 20,000 taka of the other installment for the MC of the case.

It was learned that on August 20, 2024, there was a clash between Maqbul Ali of Anarpur village in Daulatpur union of the upazila and his opponent Juned Hossain Paksha. In this incident, Maqbul Ali filed a case on August 20. And SI Alim was given the responsibility of investigating the case. After that, accused Juned assigned Faisal Ahmed of Daudpur village to look after the matter. Due to this, he regularly contacted SI Alim regarding the case. At one stage, SI Alim offered to make concessions on various issues of the case. Later, he collected a total of one lakh taka in four installments of 20,000 taka and two installments of 10,000 taka on several occasions. But instead of doing as promised with the money, SI Alim threatened to frame him in the case by showing fear and intimidation. After that, the victim Faisal Ahmed released the bribe video on Facebook and filed a written complaint with the Sylhet District Police Superintendent.

The victim, Faisal Ahmed, alleged that Inspector Alim had taken advantage of his simplicity and cheated him out of lakhs of taka to get a relationship with his uncle for nefarious purposes. He also filed a written complaint with the Sylhet Superintendent of Police on Tuesday.

When contacted to know about this, SI Alim Uddin refused to comment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bishwanath Police Station Enamul Haque Chowdhury admitted the truth of the matter. He said that SI Alim Uddin was closed on the orders of higher authorities after the truth of the complaint and the video went viral.
