Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, said that the legal framework and complaint resolution system will be strengthened to make the case management of the Department of Environment more effective. Strict measures will be taken to prevent pollution, so that criminals do not get impunity and environmental justice is ensured.
She said these things as the chief guest at a meeting to review the progress of the ongoing cases of the Department of Environment at the meeting room of the ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat today (Wednesday). The meeting discussed in detail the legal challenges and things to be done related to the cases of the Department of Environment.
The advisor said that legal activities against air, water and industrial pollution will be further strengthened. The magisterial activities of the department in environmental protection will be strengthened and along with increasing efficiency in case management, strong presentation in the court will be ensured. She directed the preparation of an enforcement manual to make the anti-pollution campaign more effective.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and was attended by Additional Secretary (Development) Md. Khairul Hasan, Additional Secretary (Environment) Dr. Fahmida Khanam, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Solicitor Wing, lawyers and other concerned officials. They expressed their views on the challenges of case management and ways to address them.
Later, the Advisor addressed the meeting as the chief guest to review the implementation progress of the projects under the ADP for the fiscal year 2024-25. He gave instructions to implement the projects in a timely and appropriate manner.
