There have been three highly discussed phone calls recently. The most discussed of which was the historic phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After that, Trump also had a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a few days ago with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

However, Trump’s phone calls with the next two, except for Putin, did not receive much attention in the world media. This was discussed by Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

He said that the recent phone call between US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was ‘important and transformative’. However, it did not receive enough attention in the media.

Participating in an online program by US journalist Tucker Carlson on Friday local time, Witkoff said that this phone call could bring positive changes in US-Türkiye diplomatic relations.

In his words, ‘I think President Trump and Erdogan had an extraordinary discussion. It was truly transformative.’

He complained that the discussion did not receive enough attention in the media due to the Gaza crisis, the Russia-Ukraine war, etc.

According to a report by the Turkish Communications Directorate, the phone call between Trump and Erdogan took place last Sunday. The development of bilateral relations and global issues were discussed.

Erdogan expressed hope that future cooperation between the United States and Turkey would be stronger and more fruitful.

It is worth noting that after Trump was re-elected last November, Turkish President Erdogan congratulated him.

In his interview, Witkoff also praised the role of US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack as important.

He said, ‘I think Ambassador Tom Barrack has done an extraordinary job and will continue to do so in the future. The relationship between President Trump and Erdogan will become important and will yield good results.’

“There is a lot of positive news coming out of these talks for Turkey,” Markey said, adding that there is no special envoy.

What was discussed is still unclear

Meanwhile, Witkoff did not disclose the specific content of the two heads of state’s discussion. Even Trump has not yet commented publicly on this. However, Witkoff indicated that some important developments may be revealed soon.

In his words, “I think you will see more reports on this in the next few days.” Source: Anadolu
