Five members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), who were arrested while kidnapping two people in Bogra and fleeing with ransom, have been suspended. RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian suspended them on Monday afternoon.

Confirming the matter, Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian said, they did not go on any operation. They did not inform anyone. They went of their own accord. They were detained there. A case has been filed against them there. I suspended them in the afternoon. An investigation will be conducted now. Departmental action will be taken against them.

The five temporarily suspended police members are RMP Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahin Mohammad Anu Islam, Constables Ripon Mia, Abul Kalam Azad, Mahbub Alam and Bashir Ali. In addition, a microbus driver named Mehedi Hasan has also been arrested with them. Everyone went to Bogra in his microbus.

Incidentally, police members of Bogra’s Kunderhat Highway Police Station arrested five people from Birgram area of ​​Bogra-Natore highway around 3 am on Sunday. Along with this, the driver of the microbus carrying them was also arrested. The police said that 2 lakh taka in cash and a police walkie-talkie were seized from them.

Bogra’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Zedan Al Musa said that these five police members went to Dhunat upazila of Bogra on Sunday and arrested two people named Rabbi and Jahangir from Digharkandi village on charges of gambling and put them in a microbus. Later, they stopped the car in Mirzapur of Sherpur upazila and demanded a ransom of 12 lakh taka from them. After bargaining, they were released after taking 2 lakh taka in cash and another 1 lakh 30 thousand taka through mobile banking.

After learning about the incident, the Bogra district police tried to seize the microbus in the Sherpur and Shajahanpur police stations. Later, with the help of the highway police, the car was seized in the Birgram area of ​​Shajahanpur police station. The five people in it identified themselves as members of the RMP’s intelligence branch. Later, after talking to their superiors, it was confirmed that they had come to Bogra without informing anyone.

Police say that a police member named Abdul Wahab is working in the RMP’s DB. His village is in Dhunte, Bogra. He went home two days ago on leave. According to the information he gave, the initial investigation revealed that five people went to Dhunte from Rajshahi.
