Russia said on Tuesday that it is interested in signing a new agreement on the safety of shipping in the Black Sea region. But there is one condition – the US must instruct President Volodymyr Zelensky to comply with it.
The White House then said in a statement that the US and Russia have agreed to ensure safe navigation in the Black Sea after ‘technical level’ talks in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.
The statement said, ‘The United States will help restore Russian agricultural and fertilizer exports, reduce the cost of marine insurance and ensure easy access to ports and payment systems for these transactions.’
The White House also stated that both countries will work to implement the agreement reached between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to this agreement, attacks on Russian and Ukrainian energy facilities will be banned.
The White House also said, ‘The United States and Russia will continue to work towards achieving a lasting and lasting peace. President Trump has reiterated that the killings on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine conflict must stop. This is an important first step towards a sustainable peace agreement.’
Earlier in an interview, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this. According to him, such an order from the United States can provide Russia with the necessary assurances.
In an interview with Channel One today, Lavrov said, ‘We need clear guarantees. After the bitter experience of the previous agreement with Kiev, this assurance will only be effective when Washington gives clear instructions to Zelensky and his team.’
Although the White House did not mention whether President Volodymyr Zelensky will comply with the terms of the agreement or whether the United States will pressure him to comply with the agreement.
However, the Black Sea agreement is seen as a potentially important step towards a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine war. Source: Reuters and Al-Jazeera
