Three including a father and daughter were killed in three separate road accidents in Sherpur upazila. Four more people were injured in the incidents.
The accidents occurred at three separate places in the upazila from morning to noon on Monday (March 31).
A Dhaka-bound bus hit a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in the upazila’s Mohipur Jamtala area around 2:30 pm on Eid. The motorcycle rider, Shariful Islam (33) and his three-year-old daughter Sejda, were seriously injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to the hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead.
Meanwhile, at 12:30 pm, a motorcycle lost control and crashed into a tree at the Jhupunia Bridge intersection in Bishalpur Union of the upazila. In this, three friends on the motorcycle—Alok Sarkar (20), Jayanta Sarkar (20) and Shuvo Sarkar (19)—were seriously injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Alok Sarkar dead.
The seriously injured Jayanta Sarkar has been shifted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra for better treatment. Shuvo Sarkar’s treatment is ongoing at a local hospital.
Also, around 11 am, a private car collided with a bus while taking a U-turn in the Dhaka-Bogra highway in front of the Mohipur Fire Service. The front part of the private car was twisted. Along with that, the motorcycle riders Md. Likhon (28) and Md. Jibon (30) were seriously injured. They were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex.
In this regard, Sherpur Highway Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Khalek and Sherpur Police Station SI Rabiul Islam confirmed the details of the accident. Later, they said that they were handed over to the family after completing the legal process.
