On the sidelines of the 25th BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, there is a ‘sufficient possibility’ of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting with Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said Khalilur Rahman, High Representative of the Principal Advisor on the Rohingya Issue and Priority Issues.
He said this at a press conference organized at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday.
The Principal Advisor will leave for Bangkok tomorrow morning to attend the BIMSTEC Summit.
At the Foreign Service Academy press conference, a journalist asked whether there will be a meeting between Professor Yunus and Narendra Modi. In response, Khalilur Rahman said, ‘We have officially requested for this meeting. We have good reason to hope that there is a sufficient possibility of the meeting taking place.’
He also said that Bangladesh is going to be the next chair of BIMSTEC. So, the heads of member states will meet the Chief Advisor and discuss the future programs of BIMSTEC. So, we can expect a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.
In response to a question, Khalilur Rahman said, ‘The Chief Advisor is visiting China or there is a possibility of his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These are not zero-sum games where if we go to one place, our relations will be damaged in another.’
He said, ‘We will try to go everywhere and move forward as much as we can according to our convenience and mutual benefit. That is why we want to maintain good relations with all countries. We do not want to move forward by excluding anyone.’
The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar were also present at the press conference.
