In Comilla, an allegation has been made that a police constable who had come to his village home for Eid holidays under the leadership of a volunteer party leader has been attacked. The injured Saddam Hossain is working at Daganbhuiyan Police Station in Feni. The attack took place on Thursday night in Monpal village of Uttarda Union in Laksam Upazila.

Police said that when the torchlight hit Union Volunteer Party President Emran Hossain, he got agitated and attacked the police constable’s house with his team. The constable hacked Saddam and injured his family members by beating them. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. On receiving the information, police and army members went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Locals said that a few days ago, Union Volunteer Party President Emran Hossain had hoisted a banner in the village. Two days ago, children hit it with a stone while playing and it was torn. Emran abused him after tearing the banner on Thursday evening. At that time, police constable Saddam Hossain, who was on leave, was returning home by torchlight along the road. When Emran saw the torchlight from a distance, he got excited and attacked the constable Saddam’s house with his team.

Injured police constable Saddam Hossain said, “On Thursday night, the light of my torch caught the eye of Union Volunteer Party President Emran from a distance. He got excited and attacked me with his team and beat and injured the people in my house.”

Since Volunteer Party leader Emran Hossain is absconding, it was not possible to get his statement on the incident.

In this regard, Laksam Upazila Volunteer Party convener Masud Rana Belal said that the issue of the attack on the police constable has come to the attention of the party high command. Therefore, Volunteer Party leader Emran Hossain has been expelled for violating party discipline.

Laksam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazneen Sultana said that three members of the family, including Constable Saddam, were injured in the attack. Later, Saddam was rescued and given first aid at the Upazila Health Complex. Police are trying to arrest Emran, the leader of the volunteer group involved in the attack.
