The interim government has decided to send a letter to the country over the imposition of new tariffs by the US. Two letters will be sent within the next 48 hours.
This was announced by the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam after a special high-level meeting chaired by Financial Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by Planning Advisor Wahid Uddin Mahmud, Energy Advisor Fawzul Kabir Khan, Chief Advisor’s High Representative Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy Lutfe Siddiqui, Board of Investment (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury, former BGMEA President Rubana Haque, Faruk Hasan, prominent businessman Tapan Chowdhury, Apex Footwear Managing Director Syed Nasim Manjur, BKMEA Executive President Md. Hatem and senior officials of various ministries.
After the meeting, the press secretary told reporters that one of the two letters will be sent by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He will give the letter to US President Donald Trump. The other letter will be sent to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) by Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.
The press secretary said that the letter will highlight the steps the Bangladesh government has taken and will take to facilitate exports to the United States and the strategies to be taken to facilitate business and investment in Bangladesh.
