A Bangladeshi fisherman’s leg was severed in a mine explosion while fishing in the border area from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. This happened on the banks of the Naf River on Sunday afternoon.

Sirajul Mostafa Lalu, a member of Ward No. 2 of the Hoaikyong Union Parishad, said that the injured youth’s name is Md. Firoz (30). He is the son of Ali Ahmed of Amtoli village.

Quoting his family, Lalu said that this afternoon Firoz went to the Hoaikyong Parrot Island of the Naf River with a net to fish. At one point while fishing, he went towards the Myanmar border and his right leg was severed in the explosion of a mine planted there.

He said that after receiving the news, people rescued him and took him to a hospital in Kutupalong for treatment.

Ukhia-64 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that a Bangladeshi youth, Firoz, lost his leg in a landmine explosion in the Totardia area, approximately 100 yards from the zero line, inside Myanmar at noon. Later, with the help of people around, he was rescued and brought to Bangladesh through the BM Post area and sent to Kutupalong MSF Hospital in Ukhia for treatment.
