At that time, Trump said that it would be nice to be able to make a deal with China.
Speaking about the ongoing negotiations, Trump also said that it seems like something good can be done for both countries.
Trump also commented on the war in Ukraine. He said that progress is being made in ending the conflict. We have made a lot of progress in ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
Meanwhile, talking about his trade policy, Trump said that the revenue from tariffs can be used to pay off the national debt.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting that lasted more than an hour, Trump said his administration was “very close” to being the first country to reach a deal. He added that he wanted to make a deal that would benefit his country.
Trump warned at the meeting that if a deal was not reached, higher tariffs would be reimposed after a 90-day break. He said his administration was not considering giving any country or company a break.
Trump had previously imposed a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods entering the United States. In addition, the United States has suspended the imposition of new tariffs on many countries for 90 days.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping opened up about tariffs on Friday. He said that no side wins in a trade war.
The latest country has announced a 125 percent tariff on the United States.
