Two Bangladeshis have died at the Doarabazar border in Sunamganj and Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah. The BSF has been accused of shooting a farmer in Doarabazar and beating a youth to death in Maheshpur. Local sources have confirmed both incidents.

The name of the deceased at the Doarabazar border is Kuti Mia (50). The body of the deceased is scheduled to be handed over through the Baganbari-Ringu border market on Saturday night.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Doarabazar Police Station Md. Zahidul Islam confirmed the matter. When asked how the death occurred, he said, “The matter is not yet known. I will be able to tell after the body is handed over.”

It is learned that seven Bangladeshis went to India on Thursday afternoon via Pekpara in Doarabazar and Mokamchhara in India. They are – Monirullah’s son Kuti Mia (50), Ayub Ali’s son Hanif Mia (30), Erabullah’s son Zarif Uddin (45) and Akbar Ali (31), Ajud Mia’s son Khokon Mia (35), Maina Mia’s son Ishaq (50) and Chan Mia’s son Sona Mia (55). All of them live in Pekpara.

They went to the betel nut garden in Nothrai, approximately 7 kilometers inside India from the border. There, they got into a fight with Indian Khasias. At one point, when the Khasias chased them, the remaining six except Kuti Mia returned. They are in hiding.

Sunamganj-28 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel AKM Zakaria Qadir said that the incident did not happen on the India-Bangladesh border. It happened 7 kilometers inside India. The police there are looking into the matter. Bangladesh police also contacted them and learned that the body of the deceased is in Shillong Hospital.

Kuti Mia’s wife Ratna Begum said that her husband left the house on Thursday morning to cut grass. Now she hears that the Khasias shot him dead. She wants her husband’s body back.

Meanwhile, the body of a Bangladeshi youth was found on the Indian side of the Ichamati River on the Maheshpur border. The place is in Habaspur village of Dhantala police station in Nadia, West Bengal. The family has alleged that he was beaten to death by BSF members. Although the body was found floating in the afternoon, the BSF recovered it at 9:50 pm on Friday and took it away.

Shamsul Alam Mridha, chairman of Nepa Union Parishad in Maheshpur upazila, said that after talking to him in various ways, we have confirmed that it is the body of a Bangladeshi youth. However, it was not possible to know his name and identity. He is approximately 24 years old. It is also not possible to say for sure whether the body is that of Wasim Ali of the tribal neighborhood of Baghadanga village. Details will be known when the BGB-BSF flag meeting is held on this matter.

Ramzan Ali of the tribal neighborhood of Baghadanga village alleged that his son Wasim was detained by the BSF while he was going to India a few days ago. He reported the incident to the local BGB camp. He claimed that the deceased youth was his son.

Lt. Col. Rafiqul Alam, commander of Jhenaidah BGB-58 Battalion, said that the body was on the Indian side of the river. The BSF took it away at night. We cannot be sure about the identity until they (BSF) inform us.

He also said that they are in touch with the BSF in view of Ramzan Ali’s complaint.

Maheshpur Police Station OC Faiz Uddin Mridha said that no one has complained to the police station about the disappearance.
