Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has directed those concerned to work with full enthusiasm to make the necessary preparations for transition from a least developed country (LDC).

The Chief Advisor gave this instruction at a meeting on LDC transition held at the Chief Advisor’s office in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Later, at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam quoted the Chief Advisor as saying that Professor Yunus said – our decision on LDC transition has been taken. Now we have to move forward with full enthusiasm. Accordingly, all necessary preparations must be made, and at the same time, we must be careful that no sector faces any kind of loss in the context of LDC transition. In addition, we must ensure how to realize the maximum benefits in the context of LDC transition.

He said that the Chief Advisor has ordered the formation of a dedicated team to continuously monitor the LDC transition. Shafiqul Alam said that Professor Yunus has repeatedly said that Bangladesh should be developed as a manufacturing hub in the South Asian region. He said today that this work should gain momentum after the LDC transition.

In response to a question at the press briefing, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury quoted Professor Yunus as saying that the Chief Advisor has ordered to work on these issues expeditiously so that no part of the export sector, including the garment sector, is affected.

He said that if the recommendations of the Reform Commission are implemented, there will be rapid improvement in many areas in the country’s labor situation to meet the conditions of foreign buyers.

It is worth noting that Bangladesh will transition from LDC in 2026. Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was present at the press briefing.
