Jyoti’s team in the equation patch

The Women’s ODI World Cup will be held in India next September. Bangladesh won the first three matches in the World Cup qualifiers to get a ticket to the tournament. It creates a strong possibility of getting a place in the World Cup. However, Nigar Sultana Jyoti’s team is in danger of falling into the equation patch after losing by 3 wickets in the fourth match against the West Indies.

Bangladesh is at the top of the points table in this 6-team competition with three wins. Jyoti will play the last match in the group stage against the host Pakistan. If Bangladesh loses in that match, the red-green representatives will fall into the equation trap.

If Bangladesh loses and the West Indies defeat Thailand by a large margin and Scotland wins against Ireland, the three teams will have 6 points each. If points are equal in the round-robin qualifiers, the two teams will get the World Cup ticket based on net run rate. However, Bangladesh is ahead in net run rate so far.

Bangladesh batted first against the West Indies at the Sports Complex in Lahore on Thursday and scored 227 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In reply, the West Indies won with 4 overs to spare. Bangladesh had put on 3 wickets for 74 runs and put pressure on them. However, the Caribbeans won with the strength of the middle order.

Opener Farzana Haque and Sharmin Akhtar, who came out on three, batted well for Bangladesh in this match as well. After losing the first wicket for 16 runs, they made a partnership of 118 runs. Farzana returned after making 42 runs. Sharmin played an innings of 67 runs off 79 balls. She hit 10 fours.

But Bangladesh could not increase the total as Jyoti (5), Ritumoni (15), Swarna Akhtar (6) and Fahima Khatun (9) failed in the middle order. Nahida Akhtar of the lower order played an innings of 25 runs and Rabeya Khan took Bangladesh’s total beyond 200.

Five batsmen of the West Indies women’s cricket team scored small runs to help the team win. Sinella Henry scored an unbeaten fifty. She scored 51 runs off 48 balls. In addition, opener Kiana Joseph scored 31, batting at number three Seamain Campbell scored 24, Stephen Taylor scored 36 and Hayley Mathews scored 33. Bangladesh pacer Marufa Akhtar took two wickets.
