US issues warning to its citizens about traveling to Bangladesh

The US has issued a level three (reconsideration) warning for its citizens about traveling to Bangladesh. In addition, the country has announced a level four warning (travel ban) for US citizens in Bangladesh about traveling to the Chittagong Hill Tracts area.

The country gave this message by updating the travel guide on the US State Department website on Friday.

The statement told US citizens that after the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, there have been sudden protests in various places recently. The situation in these places can turn violent at any moment. Therefore, any gathering or gathering should be avoided.

The US has issued a level three warning as an advice to understand the situation and reconsider before traveling to a country. Basically, it discourages traveling to the country concerned.

The statement also warned about the law and order situation in Bangladesh, saying that one should be careful about pickpockets in crowds. And crimes such as robbery, theft, and illegal drug dealing occur in big cities, especially in Dhaka. In addition, there is a risk of terrorist activities in Bangladesh. However, these crimes do not only target foreigners.

Considering the overall situation, the statement has prohibited US employees working at the embassy in Dhaka from unnecessary travel outside the capital.

The travel advisory also said that communal violence, crime, terrorism, kidnapping and other security risks are occasionally occurring in Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban. In those areas, kidnappings have occurred due to family or personal disputes, as well as targeted kidnappings of religious minorities. Separatist organizations and political violence also pose additional risks for travelers to the region.

The advisory said that this guidance may change with notice soon.
