Saying that the interim government ensures equal rights to citizens of all religions in the country, the press secretary to the principal advisor, Shafiqul Alam, has rejected the Indian government’s claim over the death of Bhavesh Chandra Roy in Dinajpur.
On Saturday, he said, “It is sad that the death of Bhavesh Chandra Roy has been described as part of the ‘continuum of organized persecution’ against Hindu minorities under the interim government. We reject this baseless claim.”
He also said, “Bangladesh is not a country where minorities are discriminated against in support of the government.”
The press secretary also said that the Bangladesh government protects the rights of all citizens regardless of their religious identity. In this particular incident, we have confirmed that the victim went out with some people he knew. His family did not report any suspicious activity related to his going out with anyone.’
Shafiqul Alam said the post-mortem report did not show any visible injury marks on the body. However, he said a viscera analysis has been ordered to confirm the cause of death. He said appropriate action will be taken after receiving the viscera report. We appeal to all parties to refrain from making misleading and provocative comments on the incident.
On Saturday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the killing of Bhavesh Chandra Roy as “a continuation of the systematic persecution of Hindu minorities under the interim government.” In a statement issued on X, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We express deep concern over the abduction and brutal killing of Hindu minority leader Shri Bhavesh Chandra Roy in Bangladesh.”
The killing is part of a series of persecutions in which Hindu minorities are being targeted and the perpetrators of previous incidents are roaming with impunity, he claimed.
