At least 13 people, including children, were killed and at least 20 others injured in the incident when a speeding truck fell into a ravine in the mountainous area of Jamshoro-Kohistan region in southern Pakistan.
The bus fell into the ravine on Monday night, Pakistani media Dawn reported. The bus was carrying workers, women and children, police said.
Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Ghazanfar Qadri said the road accident took place overnight in the Taung area of Thanabula Khan area of Jamshoro district in Sindh province.
According to local media reports, the accident occurred when dozens of workers were returning to their homes in Badin district of Sindh after harvesting wheat in Balochistan province. Most of them are members of the Kohli community.
The deputy commissioner added that rescue workers reached the spot and recovered the bodies and some of the injured were taken to a nearby primary health center.
It is initially believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan. This is because the country’s highways and other roads are in poor condition. Traffic laws are also widely ignored there.
