Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, ‘Mob justice can no longer be allowed. A lot has happened. If anyone has anything to say, they will take refuge in the law. The law and order situation has improved a lot now than before.’
He said these things during an exchange of views with the armed forces and officials of various departments in Jessore on Tuesday afternoon. The exchange of views took place at the Jessore Deputy Commissioner’s office.
At that time, the Home Affairs Advisor said, ‘We have to work to recover the weapons looted during the uprising. In addition, we have to keep an eye on the top terrorists who are free on bail. The police have to go to work in the field. However, the police will not be able to arrest anyone in civilian clothes. An attempt is being made to return the oil-fired system to the police. This has to be stopped. Community policing must be increased to improve law and order.’
Instructing the concerned officials to take measures to stop OCs from taking bribes, the Home Affairs Advisor said, ‘The practice of lobbying has not stopped yet. Many people lobby. After becoming an advisor, the number of my relatives and friends has increased. Many of whom I do not know. As a result, if someone lobbyes in my name, they will first serve tea and snacks. Then they will hand over to the law enforcement agencies. After we took charge, it has been possible to stop the recruitment trade in the police. The transfer trade has also been brought under control.
The Advisor said, ‘We must build a strong position against drugs. If action is not taken to stop drugs, there will be no jobs. We do not want to open treatment centers, we want to stop drugs.’
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Abdul Hafiz, GOC of Jessore Cantonment Major General JM Imdadul Islam, DIG of Khulna Division of Police Md. Rezaul Haque, Deputy Commissioner Md. Azaharul Islam, Superintendent of Police Rawan Jahan and other high-ranking government officials were present.
