The BGB has seized Indian cosmetics and biscuits worth Tk 4 million during a raid on the Surma River in Sunamganj. These smuggled goods were seized early on Monday (April 22).
The BGB said that after receiving information about an engine-powered trawler carrying smuggled goods across the Chalti River near the border of Sunamganj, BGB and task force members searched various boats plying the river. At one stage, they seized various cosmetics including Indian amla oil, Ponds soap, facial, wash cream, biscuits, body whitening cream, and other bags hidden under the wooden planks of a small passenger trawler. The market value of the seized goods is Tk 4 million.
Sunamganj 28 BGB Commander Lt. Colonel AKM Zakaria Qadir said that BGB members are conducting operations along the border as well as on roads and waterways to prevent smuggling. BGB is on duty round the clock to prevent smuggling ahead of the upcoming Eid.
