Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged global investors to invest in Bangladesh, saying the country has immense business potential.
He made the call while addressing a private business reception on the sidelines of the Arthana Summit in Doha this evening.
Professor Yunus said Bangladesh is an amazing country with immense economic potential. He noted that Nepal, Bhutan and seven states of India, Bangladesh’s close neighbors, do not have access to the sea.
He said that if they are given access to the sea, Bangladesh can become a very prosperous economic hub with technology in the hands of educated youth.
Urging foreign entrepreneurs to relocate their factories to Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor assured all-out support from the interim government.
He noted that Bangladesh recently held an investment summit, where it received a ‘tremendous response from investors worldwide’.
Professor Yunus said that Bangladesh is a very densely populated country. It is one of the eight most populous countries in the world. He said that about 180 million people live in a small land area, which is the most densely populated.
He said that half of the country’s population is below 37 years of age. They have access to technology knowledge.
He also highlighted how his interim government has reformed the country’s economy, judiciary and other sectors, which were destroyed by the ousted government during its 16-year rule.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun, SDG Affairs Secretary Lamia Morshed and Energy Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, among others, were present at the meeting.
