At least 25 tourists have been killed in a militant attack in Indian Kashmir. Authorities have called it the worst attack on civilians in recent times. The incident took place on Tuesday in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam in Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and said, “Those responsible for this heinous act will be brought to justice.”
Kashmir tour guide Wahid said he heard gunshots and saw several people lying on the ground when he reached the scene.
“It looked like they were dead,” he said.
He later carried some of the injured away on horseback.
The incident took place in Pahalgam, about 90 kilometers from the city of Srinagar. A top police officer in the region told AFP on condition of anonymity that the death toll in the “massacre” was at least 25.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
