India has taken strict action against Pakistan after 26 people were killed in a gun attack in Pahalgam, Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri announced these decisions at a special press conference on Wednesday.

India has announced the immediate suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the immediate closure of the Attari check post in Punjab. It has also been informed that Pakistani citizens will not be able to travel to India with special visas for SAARC countries. Those who are already in India on such visas are also being cancelled and have been asked to leave India within 48 hours.

India has declared the ‘advisors’ of the Pakistani army, air force and navy in the Pakistani embassy in Delhi as ‘persona non grata’, meaning they are undesirable. They will have to leave India within a week.

India will also withdraw its army, air force and naval advisors from its embassy in Islamabad. The military advisors from both embassies will also have to leave their respective countries with five staff members each.

The number of staff members stationed in the capitals of both countries will have to be reduced from the current 55 to 30 by May.
