ACC writes to Law and Justice Secretary seeking details of assets and personal records of 15 judges

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has written to the Law and Justice Secretary of the Ministry of Law, seeking details of assets and personal records of 15 judges of the Justice Department. The letter, signed by ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Monirul Islam, was sent to the secretary’s office on Tuesday. ACC sources have informed this information.

The letter said that corruption allegations are being investigated against former Joint Secretary of the Law Ministry Bikash Kumar Saha, former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and former Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Muhammad Asaduzzaman. They are accused of accepting bribes by promising jobs, criminal misconduct and various irregularities to earn money and amass known undeclared assets in their own name and the name of their family members.

The letter said that for the sake of a proper investigation into the complaint, it is necessary to review the asset declarations and records of 15 more judges. The latest submitted asset declarations, photocopies of personal documents and attested photocopies of personal data sheets of those 15 people have been asked to send by April 29. The team comprising Assistant Director Mohammad Monirul Islam and Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Mal Mamun of the ACC Head Office is investigating the complaint.

The names of the 15 people mentioned in the ACC letter include the names of the three people, including former Joint Secretary Bikash Kumar Saha. They are: former Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Law Bikash Kumar Saha, former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka Rezaul Karim Choudhur, former Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Judge of the Women and Children’s Murder Tribunal of Kushtia Sheikh Golam Mahbub, Judge of the Women and Children’s Murder Tribunal of Kishoreganj Mahbubur Rahman Sarkar, former District Judge of Sylhet Monir Kamal, former Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Court Tofazzal Hossain, former Additional District Judge of Magura Mushfiqur Islam, former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Gazipur Kaisarul Islam, All Chief Judicial Magistrate of Narsingdi Molla Saiful Alam, former Special Judge of Mymensingh Farhana Ferdous, Former Judge of Sherpur Women and Child Abuse Tribunal Kamrun Nahar Rumi, Former Additional District Judge of Dhaka Shawkat Hossain, Former Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sirajganj Mohammad Erfan Ullah and Habiganj District Judge Saiful Alam Chowdhury.
