The government has announced a 25 percent increase in Eid bonus for MPO-affiliated teachers and employees of private educational institutions. They will get this additional bonus from next Eid-ul-Azha.

Youth, Sports and Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan gave this information in a post on Facebook on Saturday.

On his verified Facebook page, he wrote that currently MPO-affiliated teachers and employees of private educational institutions receive an Eid bonus of 25 percent of their basic salary. The interim government has decided to increase the Eid-ul-Azha bonus of MPO-affiliated teachers and employees from 25% to 50%.

Previously, private teachers and employees did not receive festival allowance. In July 2003, a meeting chaired by the then Education Minister Dr. M. Osman Faruk decided to give festival allowance to MPO-affiliated teachers and employees. It came into effect from October of that year. Then it was decided that teachers would be given 50 percent of their basic salary. It would be divided into 25 percent on two Eids (or pujas). Since then, teachers have received 25 percent festival allowance on every Eid. It was decided to give 100 percent bonus to employees in that meeting. It is being divided into 50 percent on two Eids.

Education Ministry sources said that on March 5 this year, Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud signed a proposal to increase teachers’ festival, entertainment, house rent and other allowances before leaving the Ministry of Education. After that, the ministry started working on it.

The budget branch of the ministry said that during the last Eid-ul-Fitr, more than 30,000 private schools, colleges and madrasas under MPO across the country were given a festival allowance of about Tk 240 crore. Out of these, only 20,567 were schools and colleges. Along with this, Tk 883 crore 51 lakh 4,750 was given as salary for the month of March/2025.

The Eid bonus may increase by at least 25 percent from the current one. In that case, teachers can get 50 percent of their basic salary and employees can get 75 percent bonus.
