Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is returning home on Monday after nearly four months of treatment in London. She is returning in a special air ambulance provided by the Emir of Qatar. BNP has made preparations to receive her at the airport and take her to her residence.
The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gave this information at a briefing at the Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Saturday evening.
Khaleda Zia is accompanied by her two daughters-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman and Syeda Sharmila Rahman Sinthi. The schedule of the air ambulance has not been finalized. Earlier, BNP had said that Khaleda Zia would arrive in Dhaka on Monday via Sylhet from London on a regular flight of Bangladesh Biman.
Meanwhile, BNP will welcome the party Chairperson at the airport after she reaches Dhaka in a special air ambulance. Party leaders have said that extensive preparations have been made for this.
BNP held a joint meeting at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday evening regarding Khaleda Zia’s return to the country. Later, the party’s secretary general said, “We hope that on the 5th (May 5), the leader of the country, Begum Khaleda Zia, will come back to the country in a special plane. We had hoped that she would return to the country in the same plane, the Royal Ambulance of Qatar. We cannot say for sure the time. Because, this time will depend on various factors. If we are sure by tonight (Saturday), then we will inform you.”
Informing about the preparations, the BNP secretary general said, “The leader will return. Naturally, there is great emotion among us. Every patriotic person is excited today that their beloved leader will return to the country. It is our moral responsibility to give her a proper welcome. Not only BNP, but the people of the whole country are ready to welcome her today. We have held a joint meeting on this. We have taken measures so that the people can welcome their leader in an orderly manner.
He said to the BNP leaders and activists, they will welcome their leader by standing on both sides of the road with great discipline and without creating any traffic jams. As we have said, we will welcome her with the national flag in one hand and the party flag in the other. This is our decision.
The BNP Secretary General said, we have held a joint meeting of our party. With the leaders of the two city councils, Dhaka Metropolitan North-South BNP and its affiliates. We have taken measures so that the people can welcome her in an orderly manner. On Friday, I also sat with the administration and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. We discussed. He (Tareque Rahman) gave his advice.
He said, by the infinite mercy of Allah, the leader of the country underwent treatment in a hospital in London for four months. As per the advice of the doctors there, she went to her home (BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s house) and underwent regular treatment. Her condition has improved every day. On the one hand, due to the good environment, especially the family environment, and at the same time, through tests and advanced treatment, by the infinite mercy of Allah, she is feeling much healthier than before. That is why she has decided to return to the country now.
The BNP Secretary General and members of the Standing Committee will be present at the airport tarmac to welcome the Chairperson. Khaleda Zia’s motorcade will leave for Gulshan by car through Gate No. 8 from the airport. Leaders and activists will stand on both sides of the road from the airport intersection to her Gulshan residence ‘Firoza’ and greet their leader.
After being under treatment in London for almost four months, Khaleda Zia will leave Heathrow Airport on Sunday evening. Her son, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, will bid farewell to her mother at the airport. Khaleda Zia was taken to London for advanced treatment on January 8. After undergoing treatment at a London clinic for 17 days, Khaleda Zia was under the care of London clinic specialist doctors Professor Patrick Kennedy and Professor Jennifer Cross at her son Tarique Rahman’s house on January 25.
