Dhaka //

Professor Ali Riaz, vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has expressed hope that political parties and alliances will make concessions from their respective positions in state reconstruction and establishment of a democratic system.

He expressed this hope at the beginning of the discussion between the National Consensus Commission and the National Consensus Commission at the LD Hall of the Parliament House in Dhaka on Saturday. Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Monir Haider were present as members of the commission at the time.

The NPP said in the meeting that national elections should be held first, not local elections. The elected government will organize local elections. The National Consensus Commission (NPP) made such comments in the meeting with the Consensus Commission. Out of the 166 proposals of the National Consensus Commission, the NPP agreed with 112, disagreed with 26 and partially agreed with 28.
At the beginning of the discussion, Vice-Chairman of the Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, said, “Our goal in establishing democracy fully is to create a national consensus within the stipulated time. By achieving this specific goal, we will create a national charter. Every party and alliance will be ready to make some concessions in the national interest and in the matter of state building and establishing a democratic system, we have all gathered in this effort.”

Demanding that the national unity established through the July mass uprising is very necessary for the progress of the nation and the state, he said, “We have to come to one place. That does not mean that we will be able to agree on everything. But we hope that we will be able to agree on the issues that are necessary for state building, reconstruction and establishing a democratic system.”

During the discussion, a 13-member delegation led by Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad, the coordinator of the Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance, included freedom fighters Khandaker Lutfar Rahman, ATM Golam Maula Chowdhury, Dr. Syed Nazrul Islam, MN Shawon Sadiki, Qari Abu Taher and others.

After the meeting, NPP Chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad said that out of the 166 proposals of the National Consensus Commission, the NPP agreed with 112, disagreed with 26 and partially agreed with 28.

He said that after the national elections, that parliament will hold local elections. When asked whether national elections and local elections can be held simultaneously, he said, “The Election Commission itself has said that national elections and local elections are not possible in Bangladesh.”

The NPP expressed dissatisfaction with the humanitarian corridor during the dialogue. The interim government did not discuss this issue with the political parties. Fariduzzaman Farhad also said that if a foreign agreement is to be made with the country, the parliament government of an elected government must do it. This is not possible for an unelected government. Fariduzzaman also said, “The presidential election must be held by members of parliament. Union Parishad, Upazila Parishad and local parliament elections, apart from the members of parliament, cannot be held simultaneously.
