Bangladesh national team spin all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraj has been named ICC’s Cricketer of the Month for April. The other two cricketers who have been named in the men’s cricket list are Zimbabwean long-arm pacer Blazing Mujarabani and New Zealand pacer Ben Sears.
Pakistan’s Fatima Sana, Scotland’s Catherine Brace and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews are also in the running to become ICC’s Women’s Cricketer of the Month for April. They have been named ICC’s Cricketer of the Month for their excellent cricket performance in the World Cup qualifiers held in Pakistan last month.
Mehedi Miraj has been nominated for the ICC Cricketer of the Month for the first time. Shakib Al Hasan won the Cricketer of the Month award in March 2023. Miraj could be the second Bangladeshi to play excellent cricket against Zimbabwe. He played brilliantly in the last Test series. He took 10 wickets of Zimbabwe in two innings in Sylhet. He scored his second century in his Test career in Chittagong. He later took 5 wickets in the second innings.
Blazing Mujarabani played a major role in the historic Test victory over Bangladesh in Sylhet. He took 6 wickets in the second innings. He took 3 wickets in the first innings. Bangladesh lost in the second innings without getting a reply to his bowling. Because of that bowling, he became the first Zimbabwean to get a 700 rating in the Test bowling rankings.
Kiwi pacer Ben Sears will challenge Miraj for the best cricketer of April. He made his debut last February. He took the first 5 wickets of his career in Hamilton in the series against Pakistan in April. The 27-year-old pacer took five wickets each in the next two matches at Mount Maunganui.
