Sheikh Hasina herself has ended whatever possibility there was of Awami League returning to politics after the mass uprising of 24. Her extreme arrogance and nightmare of causing a counter-revolution have pushed the entire party into danger. As a result, all activities of Awami League were banned by the decision of the Advisory Council on Saturday in the face of the demands of the students and the public. Now the process of canceling the party’s registration has begun. This has been said by some senior politicians and political analysts.
They said that even though Sheikh Hasina got the opportunity to flee to India on August 5 in the face of the mass uprising, she could not take any effective steps to save the party and party leaders and activists she left behind in the country. She should have admitted her mistakes and publicly apologized to the nation for the misrule and looting during her 15 and a half years in power, including the crimes against humanity in July-August. But instead of doing that, he continuously incited the party leaders and activists to overthrow the interim government in India. He also ordered everyone in the party to take to the streets by causing a counter-revolution. Although many are now in prison for responding to his incitement. The rest are running away again.
The interim government decided to ban all types of Awami League activities under the Anti-Terrorism Act. As a result, the party’s leaders and activists will no longer be able to do politics in Bangladesh under the name of ‘Awami League’. Not only that, the party will be tried under the International Crimes Tribunal Act. Until this trial, all types of activities of the Awami League and its affiliates and affiliated organizations will be banned. On the same day, the interim government issued an ordinance amending the International Crimes Tribunal Act. In this, the tribunal will be able to punish any political party, its affiliates or support groups. Earlier, a special meeting of the Advisory Council of the interim government approved the proposal to amend the International Crimes Tribunal Act.
The founding president of the People’s Forum, Dr. Kamal Hossain said in this regard that Sheikh Hasina established a dynasty in the Awami League. She gradually became a dictator within the party and while running the country. That is why she had to flee the country in the face of student and public movements.
This senior lawyer also said that even after such a big incident, Sheikh Hasina has no remorse. Rather, she is continuously inciting ordinary leaders and activists inside the country from safety. She is trying to create an unstable situation in the country. The Awami League now has to bear the responsibility for these crimes of Sheikh Hasina, which is really sad.
When asked about this, senior politician and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD President ASM Abdur Rob said that the political future of the Awami League will be determined through the completion of the genocide trial.
In this regard, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, a member of the presidium of Gono Forum and former secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, said that the Awami League now has to bear the responsibility for Sheikh Hasina’s misdeeds. She has fled to India. She is living a comfortable life there. And he has made the situation even more heated by giving various directions to the party’s leaders and activists inside the country. Sheikh Hasina should have publicly apologized to the countrymen for her misdeeds, especially for the injustices she committed while in power. But instead of doing so, she has launched a counter-revolution and tried to overthrow the interim government. Because of that, the Awami League has this fate today.
Advocate Subrata Chowdhury said that Sheikh Hasina confirmed the death of the Awami League during her rule. Now, because of her, the party’s burial and shrouding work has also been completed.
Jonayed Saki, one of the top leaders of the Democracy Forum and the chief coordinator of the Mass Solidarity Movement, said on Sunday that Sheikh Hasina has not repented for the wrongdoings and misdeeds she has committed, but is instead sitting in India and engaging in various conspiracies. Due to which, various political parties and organizations, including the common people, are extremely angry. The result of this anger is the ban on the activities of the Awami League. He further said that Sheikh Hasina is solely responsible for this situation.
Political analyst and member of the Electoral Reform Commission, Dr. Zahed-ur Rahman said that the Awami League as a party is paying the price for Sheikh Hasina’s wrong politics.
However, senior journalist Masud Kamal said that the government’s decision is that the Awami League will not be able to carry out any political activities until the trial is over. But my question is – what political activities has the Awami League carried out in the last nine months that it had to take such a sudden decision.
Meanwhile, many fugitive leaders of the Awami League feel that the Awami League as a party is having to pay the price for Sheikh Hasina’s ill-considered decisions, ignorance, exaggeration and immaturity. Besides, she did not have much idea about the politics of Bangladesh for a long time after August 15. But she knows all the events that happened before and after August 5.
The leader also said that the ups and downs of politics have to be accepted. The reality has to be accepted. But Sheikh Hasina could not understand that or did not even try to understand it. That is why she is conducting one suicidal activity after another sitting in India. Instead of accepting the reality and making plans, she has already done some things, for which the Awami League as a party is now having to pay the price.
Currently, there is such a leader of the Awami League in the UK who told the media that he himself may not understand what Sheikh Hasina will do. His biggest fault is that he does not trust anyone. Not even his own shadow. He was intoxicated with power. Power is more power, absolute power. He is not tired of ruling for 15 and a half years. He must stay in power no matter what. Even after August 5, Sheikh Hasina thinks that she is still the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She does not want to understand that the reality is completely different. That is why she herself has brought such a disaster to the Awami League.
Meanwhile, the President of the People’s Rights Council and former VP of DUCSU, Nurul Haque Nur, has commented that the wealth that the Awami League has illegally looted from the people in the last 16 years should be confiscated and spent for the welfare of the people. He made this demand at an emergency press conference organized at the People’s Rights Council office in Purana Paltan on Sunday. At that time, he called the Awami League ‘fascist and a cross-border conspirator’ and demanded that the party be banned, saying that if the Awami League is not banned, the country’s independence will be under threat.
It is worth noting that the party started its journey on June 23, 1949, under the name of East Pakistan Awami Muslim League. The founding president of this party was the oppressed people’s leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and the general secretary was Shamsul Haque. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founding joint general secretary of the Awami League. In 1955, the word Muslim was dropped from the party’s name. Source-Yugantar. The party also played an important role in the 1971 Liberation War in its long political journey. On March 26, 1971, the then President of Pakistan, Yahya Khan, banned the Awami League for its activities at that time.
The party was accused of various controversial activities after independence. The government led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned all political parties through the establishment of the Baksal under the leadership of the Awami League. As a result, the Awami League faced disaster at that time as well.
